How much will the Audi E-Tron cost?

Audi E-Tron considered Electric SUV, equipped with five seats and price starts at $75,000, According to Audi. The E-Tron will be available in the middle of 2019, but with a refundable deposit of $1,000, any interested buyer can reserve his E-Tron

Remarkably to mention that E-Tron is first Audi’s production electric car, and we expect that this vehicle will be one of the most electric cars to be noticed on the market since the release of Chevy Bolt. E-Tron features and options will not disappoint Audi’s buyer’s expectations, it provides perfect cockpit finish, Quattro AWD and more.

The nearest equivalent for the E-Tron is the Jaguar I-Pace, very near technology, and comfort options, and even the price is very close. But  E-Tron and I-Pace are not competing against each other. They’re somehow are allied to compete against the big champ in electric cars market, against “Tesla.”

Is Audi E-Tron fully electric?

Yes, It’s fully electric, horses power to push the car was supplied by using four electric motors connected to each axle. Of course, E-Tron generates power from wheels while braking using three modes, the equipped battery pack is 95 kWh.

The E-Tron cockpit reminds us of the rest of Audi SUVs, many touchscreens and instruments. The infotainment and navigation located on the top center screen, the climate control and inputs on the bottom, the software shortcuts and buttons are different than other Audi’s cars.

When Audi thought about the E-Tron, the most challenging part of the car formula is, how to attract Audi’s traditional buyers and convince them to get into an electric car. It’s achieved by using the trusted and proven Audi’s cars formula and convert only the powertrain to electric without changing anything else. That made Audi’s clients feel familiar with this car.

The exterior lines of the E-Tron look similar to the Q5, the aggressive Audi grille, and sharp lines of the headlights, the body panels flowing lines.

It’s really heavy and consumes the most of the car weight, and they’re about 700 KG(1.5030 lb) divided into 36 cells, Jaguar and Chevrolet uses the same type, the “pouch-type,” unlike “cylinder-type” which used in Tesla.

According to Audi, the charge rate is outstanding, using the 150 KW charger, E-Tron can be charged to 80% within 30 min.

The E-Tron standard charger which comes with the car is a Level2 charger, 120/240 V, 40 amps. Audi has a partnership with Amazon, using Amazon home services, e tron buyers can set up their houses with e tron home charger.

To make life easy on E-Tron buyers, Audi allows them to use “Electrify America” the nationwide charging network. Each car charge is limited to 1000 KWH over four years, according to Audi, this network will cover 40 states in 2019 with 500 units of 350 KWH chargers.

How does the Audi E-Tron work?

There’s an electric motor attached to each axle, and they’re not continuously used. The e tron on normal driving depends on the rear motors when there’s a need for an extra amount of power, and the front motors start to engage.

Still, there are no official horsepower and torque numbers released from Audi, but few data available says that the 0 to 60 mph achieved in 5.5 seconds. The e tron is capable of a towing load of 4000 lbs.

Of course like any other electric cars, the braking is used to regenerate some of the wasted energy back to the battery.

Audi took the driving efficiency to a new higher level, e tron monitors and analyze the traffic on the road using incoming data from the camera and navigation software, so when it predicts traffic congestion. It will guide the driver for the best time to release his leg off the gas pedal to slow down.

Here we come to the best part, 30% of e tron range is achieved by recovering wasted energy, whether the driver releases his leg off the accelerator or while braking. The electric motors regenerate electricity and used to charge the battery pack.

Audi used a smart electrical system for braking, lighter by 30% than the old vacuum brakes traditional system. It uses a control unit attached to a sensor which senses the driver leg pressure on the brake pedal which transforms the required pressure to an electric motor to feed the brake calipers with the adequate pressure.

E-Tron features three settings to recover wasted energy. The first set, which is the most efficient one, it makes the motors engage aggressively when the driver releases his leg off the accelerator pedal, this setting also offers a one-pedal driving style. The second set is moderate braking engagement for the motors. The third setting makes the car run without any motors braking resistance which we think is the closest setting to the standard “petrol cars” driving style.

For usage flexibility, controls are separated into two touch screens. The upper center-mounted one sized 10. Inch, the bottom is 8.6 inch, audio feedback is provided when using any of the two screens.

Audi to absorb the interior gap between the traditional and electric cars, It didn’t follow Tesla interior design style, instead of using one massive touch screen. It featured two conventional touch screens, the top for infotainment, navigation maps, phone and car sets, the lower screen for A/C and input navigation destination.

Those touch screens were introduced in Audi’s sedans which will be populated in the rest of its models soon.

The digital instrument sized at 1920X720 which can be configured to display speed, power meter, and more other info, also head-up display is available according to the buyer choice.

Audi didn’t forget smartphone apps fans, using this app, the driver can set the navigation route, estimate how many times battery will be charged, and reserve his/her charge with local stations.

There are many competitors for E-Tron to handle, but the most potent competitor is Tesla Model X, it’s faster, bigger but cost more with less range.

Tesla Model X has a good looking, attractive but e tron is Just an Audi, Model X has seven seats, but Audi has only five seats. In acceleration to 60 mph, Model X can outrun most of sports cars in the market.

How many miles does the Audi E Tron get?

The basic prices of Model X and E-Tron are very close, its $72.100 for Tesla and Audi E Tron price is $74.800. When E-Tron range compared to Tesla Model X, E-Tron range is longer by 9 miles. It’s 248 miles. Tesla can achieve more extended range, but buyers must select an expensive battery pack, the more extended range of Model X cost $88.600 with a range of 295 miles.

E-Tron has a more extended range model, with almost 295-mile range but priced at $81,700, But E-Tron features more options like a heads-up display, parking assist and massaging seats. The E-Tron First Edition package features night vision mode, 21-inch wheels, and interior trim. With a price of $69.500, Jaguar I-Pace comes close to E-Tron, almost the same range, and speed with a smaller cabin.

Producing E-Tron and I-Pace considered a significant step in car manufactures history. Because producing such electric vehicles from two automotive giants using their mass production lines prepare the way for electric cars to replace the old traditional vehicles.
